PALS and Rule Set Licensing

The content that is added to your directory from licensed Practice Area Legal Solutions (PALS) or Abacus Rule Sets (which are installed as PALS and licensed in the same way) is protected. It cannot be exported to other Abacus directories, and cannot be changed using the global replace utility.

A daily startup test makes sure that you have licenses for protected data. If the license file does not exist or does not have all the licenses required, the program will UN-register the data directory and only allow single user access until the problem is corrected. A directory that is not registered will run for 30 days, after which it will not run at all until the appropriate licenses are in place. Contact Abacus Customer Support for help with any license issues.

Correcting a Non-Compliant Installation

When Abacus requires licenses, the user will see a window at startup that offers either to run unregistered or to delete the licensed records. Deleting these records is not recommended! You may lose important parts of your setup. This option is available for the rare occasions where you don't have a legitimate license to that data, for example if someone accidentally copied protected records into your databases using another program.

You should contact Abacus Customer Support to acquire any needed licenses.
