Using ALF Files for Forms
When you use a form to generate a document, an ALF file is used to format the data. The most common method of using ALF files for forms is to schedule an event for a particular name and matter that requires a document, then:
-
Assign a form to the event.
-
Select Documents > Today's Documents on that day to see the events that have assigned forms.
-
Right-click the event and select Form generation > Do the form.
Abacus finds the appropriate ALF file for that form and gathers the data. At this point, the current matter record (the one linked to the event) is considered the primary matter. The current name record is considered the primary name, and the event is the primary event. These records and their linked names, events, matters, and notes can be output by the ALF file.
