Checking Documents In and Out

Once Enhanced Document Management is set up, documents in AbacusLaw are encrypted and stored in the Document Repository. From the Document Manager or the Name/Matter window's Docs tab or the Checked Out Documents Browse, you can follow these procedures to check out documents, make changes, and check them back in.
Viewing/Printing Documents
To view or print a document without checking it out, right-click the document and click View/Print Document. The document appears in the Document View window. Select a zoom level to better view the document or click Print to print the document.
Checking Out Documents
From a list of document links, do one of the following:

Right-click the document and click Check-Out and Open or click Check-Out.

Highlight the document and click Edit. The Document Details window appears. Click Check In/Check Out and click Check-Out.
Making Changes to Documents
Open the checked out document.

If you selected Check-Out and Open when checking the document out, then the document is already open.

If you selected Check-Out, right-click the document again and click Open OR double-click the document.

If you checked out from the Document Details window, click Open in the window.
Once open, make changes to the document as you normally do. Save the document, close it, and then check it in.
Cancelling Check Out
Canceling the check out checks the document back in without keeping any changes, even if you saved them. The document version will revert to the last saved and checked in version. The document must be closed to cancel check out.
Do one of the following to cancel the check out:

Right-click the document and click Cancel Check-Out.

Highlight the document and click Edit. The Document Details window appears. Click Check In/Check Out and click Cancel Check-Out.
Checking In Documents
Checking in documents keeps any saved changes and adds a new document version. Documents must be closed to check them in.
Do one of the following:

Right-click the document and click Check-In.

Highlight the document and click Edit. The Document Details window appears. Click Check In/Check Out and click Check-In.
