Customization Checklist for Matters

Before you work with matters, there are a few things you can do to customize the process. Note that while this customization is optional - Abacus works whether you customize or not - customization can save you time and add more meaning to your firm's data.

You can:

Automate case numbers : Abacus is set so that when you add a new matter, the case number is automatically incremented and entered (turned on by default). If you have your own formula for how you want this field set, you can turn this off by selecting File > Setup > System Options and un-checking Increment Case/File number.

Customize the Matter window : The Matter window can be changed to suit your taste. You do this by selecting File > Setup > User Preferences then click on the Appearance tab of the User Preferences window.

Customize fields: You can customize the fields that appear on the Matter window.

Customize only the user-defined fields on the Standard tab : You can change the names of the user-defined fields that appear on the Standard tab of the Matter window by selecting File > Setup > System Options and clicking the Field Names button.
