Overview of Practice Area Legal Solutions (PALS)

Different practice specialties have different needs. For example, a family law practice needs to keep track of certain personal information that a real estate practice would not need, while a real estate practice needs to keep track of transaction details that a family law practice would not need.

Customizing Abacus can be a demanding job, so we introduced practice area legal solutions (PALS) (also known as practice packs) as a way to automatically configure your Abacus installation with extra fields, screens, reports, and queries. Consultants or users can package up customizations that can be applied to other installations.

PALS can be installed on top of your existing Abacus installation to get custom matter and name screens, rules, reports and forms - each for a specific law specialty such as Personal Injury, Family Law, Estate Planning, Workers Compensation, etc. Each PALS is a result of hundreds of hours of research and development with specialists employing "best practices" in their fields.

If you practice more than one specialty, you can install more than one PALS and they won't interfere with each other. PALS include Smart Screens that recognize the type of matter selected and can display the appropriate screen for each. For example, if the matter is a Personal Injury, the Personal Injury PALS matter screen is used, and if the matter is a divorce case, the Family Law PALS matter screen is automatically used.
