Scheduling a Series of Events Based on a Rule

Use rules to calendar a sequence of related events. You can use your own rules or you can purchase sets of rules from Abacus Data Systems. Contact Customer Support for more information.

  1. Do one of the following:

    1. From the Calendar, right-click an empty time slot or box and click Add Events from a Rule.

    2. From the Events Browse window, right-click any event and click Add Events from a Rule.

    3. From the Event window, click the Event Actions button, and click Add Events from a Rule.

  2. The Rules window appears. Highlight the rule you want to apply and click Done. The Adding a new Event window appears. Notice that the rule is listed in the What box. (Rules are simply What codes that schedule events based on a timeline.)

  3. Complete all the information for the series of events. For When, select the start date for the series. Click here for help changing the settings on the window.

  4. Click Save. The Creating Events from a Rule window appears.

  5. Click Yes. The Linked Events Browse window appears displaying the series of events that were automatically generated by the rule.

  6. If you like, you can:

    1. Edit generated events: Select the event and click Edit. Edit the event and click Done.

    2. Delete generated events: Select the event and click Delete. A window appears asking you if you are sure you want to delete the event. Click Yes.

  7. Click Done. The generated series events are scheduled.

NOTE: When you generate events from a rule, a note is automatically added to each generated event showing the calculated due date and the related event on which the current event is dependent, plus the description from the rule for that event. If the event is a REMINDER, the note from the trigger event is copied into the REMINDER note as well. In addition, when you recalculate events from a rule, three asterisks plus a description of the recalculation is added to the end of the note. The original note is also retained so you can trace the history of an event's scheduling. If you don't want these audit notes cluttering your printed calendars, set your calendars to print only "Partial" notes. This will only print the note up to the three asterisks (***). (Laser Calendars will only print partial notes.)
