Editing General Information for Matters

  1. Select Matters > Matters or click the Matters toolbar button. The Matters Browse window appears.

  2. Highlight the matter you want to edit and click Open. The Matter Maintenance window's General tab appears.

  3. From the General tab, complete/edit the settings as follows:

    1. Client Number: [read only] The associated client.

    2. Matter Number: The matter number. Change as necessary.

    3. Split Billing Master Matter: When checked, this matter will be considered the master matter for split billing purposes. Note that when you select this option, the Splt Bllg tab appears. For more information, see Overview of Split Billing.

    4. Inactive: Check if you want to make the matter inactive.

    5. Open Date: Enter the date on which you opened the matter for this client.

    6. Close Date: When applicable, enter the date on which the matter was closed for this client.

    7. Default Trust Account: If you have more than one trust account, enter the default trust account to be used for this matter.

    8. Responsible Timekeeper: Select the timekeeper who is responsible for the matter.

    9. Originating Timekeeper: Select the timekeeper who brought the matter (business) into the firm.

    10. Assigned Timekeeper: Select the timekeeper who is working the matter.

    11. Case Code: Select the case code for the type of law related to the matter.

    12. Tax Status: Select whether services for the matter are taxable or not.

    13. Matter Description: Enter a description of the matter. This text will appear on invoices, statements, and reports.

    14. Comments: Enter comments for the matter. This text appears on prebills only.

    15. LSUC Transaction Levy: (for users with Canadian practice pack only) Select the Canadian LSUC transaction levy applicable to the matter.

  4. Click Done to save your changes.
